Bring Home A Marines Dog: Farrah's Story

This story was in my newspaper this morning....please help if you can.
"My name is Will Simpson, I am a Marine stationed out of Camp Pendleton but deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom right now. While here in Aghanistan I have taken in a dog from the nearby city that would have ended up on the street and wihout a home, left to fend for herself. Her name is Farrah, she is a Sage Koochee breed which means "dog of the nomad", and we think she's about 3 months old.
We found her scavenging outside of our small camp so we brought her in, fed her, washed her, gave her shots from a local vet and a lot of TLC. I think she knew what we were up to and from then on its been friends for life, she has taken on the role of being part of the family, everyone takes turns watching, feeding and taking her out. She is a constant companion to all of us and can frequently be found on the couch next to one of the guys, or out playing catch...well, learning anyway. She is extremely sweet and well tempered, and is always there to greet you with a kiss!"

San Diego Says No To Home Bible Study?

Something is rotten here in San Diego and it isn't the seal poop at the Children's Pool.

"Pastor David Jones and his wife Mary have been told that they cannot invite friends to their San Diego, Calif. home for a bible study — unless they are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars to San Diego County.

"On Good Friday we had an employee from San Diego County come to our house, and inform us that the bible study that we were having was a religious assembly, and in violation of the code in the county."

Here's my problem with this story...how MANY peeps are they having over for "bible study"? Are we talking so many people that they are creating a traffic/parking/noise code violation/issue? I have a hard time believing that my hometown would do this to this couple for some simple bible study in private home. On a side note, the city has come out and said they just don't have the cash to address issues like these so that also factors into this story.

I think I'll wait until more info comes out on this story before picking sides.

Los Angeles Earthquake: 5.0

Tonight there was a 5.0 quake in LA. Well over 150 miles away from me here in San Diego but it was felt. It was funny because I was talking to my mom 33 miles north of me and she said ..."OMG EARTHQUAKE". And I had a few seconds to think,"Huh?", then it hit and it was a VERY mild little shaky shake and some hanging plants having a dance party.

I do worry. After the Loma Prieta quake in '89 I am pretty earthquake savvy and looking at the USGS map for the last week things are looking up. As in there has been a lot of activity. I only hope this is NOT a precursor to another "big one".

The leader of a statewide veterans group who fought for homeless veterans in Colorado Springs is in jail in Denver today, unmasked as a former mental patient who posed as a wounded Marine officer and 9/11 survivor.

The man who called himself Rick Duncan - purportedly a former Marine captain and 1997 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy - is in fact 31-year-old Richard Glen Strandlof, a former mental patient who never served in the military and falsely claimed that he was in the Pentagon during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to David Walsh of the Colorado Veterans Alliance (CVA), which Duncan founded.

Walsh, who joined the board of CVA at Duncan’s request last year, said his colleagues in the organization grew suspicious of Duncan after discovering “significant inconsistencies” in his personal story.

In a search of the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office records, for example, they found that the name Colorado Veterans Alliance had been reserved by “Rick Strandlof,” whom they had never met, Walsh said.

While probing Duncan’s past, Walsh said, the group found evidence that he was a patient in a mental hospital in Washoe County, Nev., at the time of the roadside bombing in Fallujah, Iraq, that Duncan claimed left him severely wounded.

The group contacted the FBI field office in Denver, which began investigating in early May and arrested Duncan Tuesday night in downtown Denver on a traffic warrant originating in El Paso County.

It's not enough that our kids are indoctrinated in public schools to hate God, Christmas, Republicans, Democracy, personal freedom and anything else resembling what our forefathers had in mind for this country.

Movie Review: The New Star Trek

Holy beer and pretzels batman this is one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life. The Star Trek franchise has been reborn with the power of a thousand suns, this is the Rock Star of the Trek movies as the "I've already seen it twice guy" sitting next to me declared. I am already foaming at the mouth for the next installment. I'm not even going to try to be objective here.

This Star Trek boldly goes where none have gone before and serves as a prequel to all the previous movies. It begins....at the beginning. And when I say beginning, I mean it. I'll not spoil anything for you here, but let's just say we meet James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock long before they form the lasting friendship Trek fans have come to love at the helm of the USS Enterprise.

Whoever did the casting for this movie should have a bronze statue erected in his honor. Chris Pine gives us a James T. Kirk that Shatner would be proud of, with all the swagger and ego he had in the original series. Zachary Quinto as Spock embraces the rational logic that is a Vulcan with the same acerbic tone that Leonard Nimoy gave the role for so many years.

The dreaded Romulans are back in full bad guy mode in this Star Trek. Fresh from the Star Fleet academy; young Kirk and Spock, along with Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Sulu, Chekov, Scotty and Uhura must save the current captain of the USS Enterprise, Earth and defeat the Romulan aggressors. Here's the full synopsis.

Look I don't want to give away anything in the story, so let's just say, this movie is worth seeing in the theater, twice at least. Even if you aren't a big Trek geek like I am you'll love this movie. (No, I don't go to conventions and I don't own a plastic Star Fleet badge nor a faux phaser.) It's got it all. Car chases, intergalactic wars, love scenes and it's also funny as all get out, the audience laughed out loud over and over again.

I give this movie 4 out of 4 stars. Star Trek is BACK!

Obama's 3.4 Trillion Dollar Budget

The Obama administration today unveiled details of a $3.4 trillion federal budget for the fiscal year beginning in October..."We can no longer afford to spend as if deficits don't matter and waste is not our problem," he said. "We can no longer afford to leave the hard choices for the next budget, the next administration -- or the next generation."

What the hell is he talking about? He IS spending like deficits don't matter, he's making NO HARD CHOICES, he's flinging money around like a sailor on shore leave.

This is on top of TARP, The Porkulous, 2.5 billion for "flu whatever" and on and on. On top of the teachers getting paid to sit on their asses, free cars for welfare recipients, Obama's choice to DOUBLE the tax law enforcement budget and disastrous $300,000+ 9/11 re-enactments.

Where are all the rabid foam at the mouth lefties who were screaming bloody murder over Bush's supposed "monstrous" spending. They are shockingly silent these days.

San Diego Walk For The Animals

WOW, thousands of doggies (and one rather pissed off looking cat) turned out for the 15th annual Walk For The Animals. Put on by the San Diego Humane Society, I must say it sure looked like it was a success. And a load of fun. All those cute doggies of every size, shape, age and color. Including one dog that was purple.
