When I was a child one of my favorite books was, 'Watership Down', by Richard Adams. In fact I loved it so much, I begged for a bunny and named it Hazel, after one of the lead "characters". He lived a spoiled life and died an old man.
After all these years, the words from the poem at the end of the book stand out to me. I don't remember the whole thing, and if I get it wrong, please correct me, but I think it's relevant. I think it speaks to where we are as a country, though I doubt Mr. Adams meant for it to have any "deep political meaning".
Here's what I remember by heart to this day....(again, correct me if I'm wrong.)
All the world will be your enemy
Prince with a thousand enemies.
And whenever they catch you,
they will kill you.
But first they must catch you.
Digger,
listener,
runner;
Prince with a swift warning.
Be cunning, and full of tricks,
and your people shall never be destroyed.
