Dear President George W. Bush,
Mr. President, this is so hard for me to write, for so many reasons. Mainly because my saying good bye to you means that Barack Obama will be our President and that makes my hiney pucker.
There were many ups and downs during your presidency (mainly ups until 2006..coincidence? I say nay.)But of course we all know you'll be judged solely for the downs and that's really a shame. Everyone knows I have riden your arse like a rented mule, especially the last 3-4 years, but I'd like to part on good terms. So I would like to thank you for all the good things you've done and leave the nasty repartee to the MSM who loves you so.
Mr. President, I thank you for, unlike your predecessors, doing something about those who attack our nation. And in the wake the murder of almost 3,000 Americans, you stood strong and for a time united this country as never before.
Mr. President, I thank you for signing into law the Do Not Call registry, BRAVO.
Mr. President, I thank you for getting Libya to at least pretend it is giving up it's WMD and to allow international inspectors at it's suspected missile sites and to renounce terrorism. No one else did it, you did. Good job!
Mr. President, I thank you not signing the Kyoto insanity which has saved billions of dollars.
Mr. President, I thank you for keeping India and Pakistan from nuking each other through peaceful diplomatic means.
Mr. President, I thank you for almost getting North Korea to shut down their nukes. Hey you gave it a shot, but they're commies. I mean you know commies suck.
Mr. President, I thank you for trying to end ridiculous AG subsidies.
Mr. President, I thank you for showing that the GOP is not the party of the KKK, unlike SOME other parties: "President Bush has appointed the first non-white attorney general (Alberto Gonzales), as well as both the first (Colin Powell) and second (Condoleezza Rice) non-white secretaries of state. His past and present transportation secretaries have been an Asian American man (Norman Mineta) and a woman (Mary Peters). His education secretaries have been an African American man (Rod Paige) and a woman (Margaret Spellings). His labor secretary, Elaine Chao, was the first Asian American woman in US history to be appointed to a Cabinet post."
Mr. President, I thank you for signing an executive order banning federal eminent domain seizures. Making it REALLY hard for any following president to rescind.
Mr. President, I thank you for protecting our oceans by designating the largest marine reserves in history.
Mr. President, having talked to several teachers and looking at the numbers, I'd like to thank you for NCLB, numbers are up and holding teachers accountable clearly works.
Mr. President, thanks TONS for appointing Sam Alito and John Roberts to the Supreme Court. KUDOS!!!
Mr. President, through your humanitarian aid to Africa, you've saved hundreds of thousands of lives and done good things there. I personally wish we'd stop sending aid to anyone, but that's just me, those Africans freakin' luv ya! Good job!
Mr. President, thanks for increasing military pay AND benefits and restoring military spending as outlined in our constitution, unlike say...your predecessor.
Mr. President, cool beans my good man for the tax cuts, they were good while they lasted. Not only the tax cuts, but also for reducing taxes on and capital gains as well as kicking Clinton's OSHA ergonomic rules out the door saving hundreds of thousands of jobs.
Mr. President, while you have not been what I would call "strong" on the immigration issue, you did manage to get the HB1 visa's down from a high of 165,000 to 66,000 a year, good job, every little bit helps.
Mr. President, thank you for banning the inhumane and vile partial birth abortion.
Mr. President, I really want to thank you for trying to avert fiscal disaster in regard to GSE's, not your fault you were ignored. Over and over through the years you and your administration tried to provide oversight on GSE's and your warnings went unheeded. YOU did all YOU could do.
Mr. President, while not very Republican of you(not much is old chap), your Medicare prescription drug benefit, enacted in 2003, has spurred competition within the drug companies and is highly popular with most, my own parents included.
Mr. President, the surge in Iraq, which was panned by everyone from left to right was WILDLY successful and has ultimately led to the stable, still delicate, Iraqi Democracy we have today. Thanks, democracy in the ME is a good thing.
Mr. President, you did many good things while in office and like I said, I'll leave the Bush Bashing and BDS to the Media and the leftist nut jobs, there's enough of that. Though I must say and must mention that your NOT pardoning Ramos and Compean is one of the most disappointing things you've done.
I want to thank you for the good times, and the last 8 years have been full of them.
I also want to thank you for being a man of great integrity, honor and honesty, sometimes to a fault. It was refreshing to have a man with principals and morals in a position of power.
And last but not least, thanks for the laughs and of those there have been legion.
My favorite Bushisms:
"I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family."
"Too many good docs are getting out of the business. Too many OB-GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country."
"They misunderestimated me." That they did.
There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."
“Wow! Brazil is big.”
Good times.
So President Bush, I wish you a fond farewell. I wish you nothing but peace and joy in your retirement. I wish nothing but success and prosperity to you and your family and I want to thank you for not pushing for no term limits, like SOME people.
Sincerely,
Jenn (of the Jungle)
