Happy Memorial Day- Remember The Pokey's

Yes, I said HAPPY Memorial Day. Why? Because those who died need to be remembered and honored by our living and our celebrating our life here in this still, for now, free country they died to protect.

But I ask everyone to please take some time during he BBQ'ing and drinking and merry making to at least remember WHY we are still free and those who died to protect us.

Take some time folks and remember them. Pray for them. Close your eyes and for a few minutes of your day just think of them and all the gave so you could have the last Monday in May off work to party your ass off.

I will be. Today I walked to my park and spent some time weeding the bed at the foot of the Memorial tree and placed a few flags. And Birdy, my faithful Dalmatian and I just sat there and felt the peace and sent them our love. I hope you can take a few minutes out of your day to do the same.

I would also like to just honor one particular young man who I never met in life but who has come to mean a lot to me.

Dear Pokey,

Thank you so much for your service to our country and your ultimate sacrifice. Through your mom I feel I have come to know the promising, goofy, sweet, caring and fun dear young man you were. You are truly missed by so many, they loved you so and still do and your spirit is with us all. You, your sacrifice is what makes fighting the good fight and wanting this country to succeed and remain strong worth it all.

I promise Pokey to fight the fight however I can and I promise never to forget you or your brothers who sacrificed it all to keep us safe and free.

The worker, Naomi Cohn, told The Post that she was hired and fired a number of times by Census. Each time she was hired back, it seems, Census was able to report the creation of a new job to the Labor Department.

Each month Census gives Labor a figure on the number of workers it has hired. That figure goes into the closely followed monthly employment report Labor provides. For the past two months the hiring by Census has made up a good portion of the new jobs.

Labor doesn't check the Census hiring figure or whether the jobs are actually new or recycled. It considers a new job to have been created if someone is hired to work at least one hour a month.

One hour! A month! So, if a worker is terminated after only one hour and another is hired in her place, then a second new job can apparently be reported to Labor . (I've been unable to get Census to explain this to me.)"

M. Speaker:

I rise to take strong exception to the speech of the President of Mexico while in this chamber today.

The Mexican government has made it very clear for many years that it holds American sovereignty in contempt and President Calderons behavior as a guest of the Congress confirms and underscores this attitude.

It is highly inappropriate for the President of Mexico to lecture Americans on American immigration policy, just as it would be for Americans to lecture Mexico on its laws.

It is obvious that President Calderon does not understand the nature of America or the purpose of our immigration law.

Unlike Mexico's immigration law -- which is brutally exclusionary -- the purpose of Americas law is not to keep people out. It is to assure that as people come to the United States, they do so with the intention of becoming Americans and of raising their children as Americans.

Unlike Mexico, our nation embraces immigration and what makes that possible is assimilation.

A century ago President Teddy Roosevelt put it this way. He said:

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

That is how we have built one great nation from the people of all the nations of the world.

The largest group of immigrants now comes from Mexico. A recent RAND discovered that during most of the 20th Century, while our immigration laws were actually enforced, assimilation worked and made possible the swift attainment of the American dream for millions of immigrants seeking to escape conditions in Mexico.

That is the broader meaning of our nations motto, e pluribus unum from many people, one people, the American people.

But there is now an element in our political structure that seeks to undermine that concept of E Pluribus Unum. It seeks to hyphenate Americans, to develop linguistic divisions, to assign rights and preferences based on race and ethnicity, and to elevate devotion to foreign ideologies and traditions, while at the same time denigrating American culture, American values and American founding principles.

In order to do so, they know that they have to stop the process of assimilation. In order to do that, they must undermine our immigration laws.

It is an outrage that a foreign head of state would appear in this chamber and actively seek to do so. And it is a disgrace that he would be cheered on from the left wing of the White House and by many Democrats in this Congress.

Arizona has not adopted a new immigration law. All it has done is to enforce existing law that President Obama refuses to enforce. It is hardly a radical policy to suggest that if an officer on a routine traffic stop encounters a driver with no drivers license, no passport, and who doesnt speak English, that maybe that individual might be here illegally.

And to those who say we must reform our immigration laws I reply that we dont need to reform them we need to enforce them. Just as every other government does. Just as Mexico does.

Above all, this is a debate of, by and for the American people. If President Calderon wishes to participate in that debate, I invite him to obey our immigration laws, apply for citizenship, do what 600,000 LEGAL immigrants to our nation are doing right now, learn our history and our customs, and become an American. And then he will have every right to participate in that debate.

Until then, I would politely invite him to have the courtesy while a guest of this Congress to abide by the fundamental rules of diplomacy between civilized nations not to meddle in each others domestic debates.

No American Flags Allowed

Golly gee whiz, I need a list-maker just to keep up with all the new PCBS rules.

Apparently wearing a shirt with the American flag is OK on any other day but Cinco De Mayo. But wearing an Old Navy shirt with an American flag on it ON Cinco De Mayo is "culturally insensitive" and a big no no.

Truck Shuts Down NYC's Triborough Bridge

UPDATED: Police X-rayed the truck and cut a hole in the side to discover it was empty. They're looking to speak to the person who abandoned it.

"New York City police are investigating a truck abandoned several yards from a toll booth near the Manhattan side of the Triborough Bridge.

Police say witnesses reported seeing a man flee the vehicle Wednesday night. A smell of gasoline was reported coming from the vehicle, which was described as a U-Haul or Ryder truck."

Muslim terrorist attacks have begun becoming common place during his administration(Little Rock, Ft. Hood, Times Square, Undies Bomber). Inflation is going gangbusters, recovery is barely noticeable and in some places not even a blip on the radar. Jobless rates continue to climb. Political discourse from the WHITE HOUSE itself has dissolved into calling hundreds of thousands of American voters Teabaggers.

He's ignored the deaths of nearly 30 people in the south and the devastating floods. He ignored the oil spill until his people told he he should probably stop counting all the campaign donations from BP and maybe show up or something. In fact he ignored the tremendously cold, bitter and deadly winter we just went through, never even commenting on the loss of life and devastation wrought by the bitter cold.

He calls for fiscal responsibility then passes the most fiscally irresponsible legislation since FDR's first New Deal(Obamacare). Then promises to pass some more fiscally psychotic bills in the name of environmentalism and illegal immigration.

And where is the transparency? The open presidency we were promised? No press conferences since 2009. Staged town halls. No school records released.

There is only one person to blame for YOUR failings Obama and that is yourself. Try some humble pie I heard it's good for curing ego.

Arizona Suns = Racists

The Arizona Suns have decided to wear special Jersey's for their game Wednesday in solidarity with the poor criminal invaders targeted by SB 1070 in Arizona.

For some reason they chose to use Los Suns as their name instead of The Suns. Seems to me they are racially profiling the criminal invaders, assuming they are Hispanic. How racist of them.

Attention Office of the Mayor of New York City-RE: Interview with Katie Couric in which you alluded to Tea Party members being car bomb wielding terrorists.

I respectfully ask that YOU Mayor Bloomberg issue a verbal and written apology to me and the hundreds of thousands of American Citizens, "with a political agenda that don't like the health care bill or something," that you alleged could be responsible for the attempted bombing of Times Square.

Dangerous rhetoric and finger pointing at innocent Americans and making them out as terrorists has no room in an office of your regard.

Times Square Bomber NOT A Lone Wolf

As the evidence rolls out it looks like this was a long time coming. And it appears he had friends.

Not only did Shahzad move his little family back to Karachi Pakistan almost immediately after getting his citizenship last year, but he also spent time hanging out in Pakistani terror training camps.

"A Pakistani government source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told TIME on Tuesday that the suspect had ties with militants while in Pakistan. "He was here at a training camp," the source said. The source also claimed that members of Shahzad's family were arrested in Karachi on Tuesday morning."

Oh but Pakistan is an ally. (Not.)

At very least his wife had to be complicit in this. Additionally Pakistani authoritah has arrested 4-8 suspects in Pakistan. A couple of them at least are said to be family members of Shahzad.

In fact, it seems he and his wife bought a home and never/barely paid for it, causing him to go into forclosure. Looks like he just needed a place to plot from. But he has $1800 cash to buy a car. That I find interesting.

I await Mayor Bloomberg's apology.

Breaking: Federal authorities arrested a U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent Monday night on New York's Long Island in connection with the attempted Times Square car bombing, Fox News has learned.

The man was identified as Shahzad Faisal of Connecticut.

Car Bomber In Times Square A Teabagger?

Well all day I have read every story I could about the would be car bombing Saturday in New York's Times Square.

General consensus is that the perpetrator was a white 40 year old male Christian card carrying member of the Tea Party crowd.

Here's a sample of some of the comments on the Foxnews story:

Attempted Bomb Attack In NYC-UPDATED 12:32 pm pacific

Well it's official. It was an attempt. Had the bomb/explosives been successful the results would have been catastrophic.

"New York mayor Michael Bloomberg says a suspicious vehicle in Times Square "did indeed contain an explosive device."

Police found the device in the smoking sport utility vehicle Saturday evening. They then cleared the streets of thousands of tourists milling through the landmark district so they could dismantle the device."

I am listening to the news now and there is a man named Ted Williams, talking about how well this was handled. I DISAGREE.

How was it handled well when the explosive filled SUV was found AFTER it began smoking? It was a vendor who alerted police.


UPDATE 1: Mayor Bloomberg called it "amateurish" but word on the street says it had two timers. Gas and propane tanks as well.

UPDATE 2: The car bomb was reported by a Vietnam Vet local  T-SHIRT vendor. 


UPDATE 3:  Investigators removed three propane tanks, consumer-grade fireworks, two filled 5-gallon gasoline containers, and two clocks with batteries, electrical wire and other components, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said at a news conference early Sunday. A black metal box resembling a gun locker was also recovered.

UPDATE  4: A top Pakistani Taliban commander took credit for yesterday's failed car bomb attack in New York City.

UPDATE 5: South Park link????  The car was parked near the offices of Viacom which owns South Park. The creators of South Park were threatened earlier last month for their depiction of the "prophet" Mo-Ham-head. 

UPDATE 6: People who are comparing this to McVeigh are crack smokers. McVeigh as misguided and psychotic as he was had a target, that target was the Federal government. Bill Clinton and Janet Reno's foray into Waco, was the reason. Times Square is not a federal target. So let's stop the "blame the tea party" BS. McVeigh was an anarchist, they lean left folks.

UPDATE 7: This attempted attack looks a lot like the attacks in London in 2007 at the night club Tiger Tiger. Same MO. That attack was perpetrated by Bilal Abdullah and his partner Kafeel Ahmed. Abdullah was sentenced to life in prison. Ahmed blew himself up at the Glasgow airport the next day, thankfully he blew himself up only.

Car Bomb Found In Times Square: Allegedly

It was Bush, fo shizzle.

"A police investigation after a car fire was disrupting traffic, both on the roads and the sidewalks, well into Sunday morning in Times Square.

Officials said there were no injuries in the car fire, but that there was a suspicious package in the vehicle's back seat.

Sources said gunpowder, gasoline, propane tanks, and some electrical components were found inside the vehicle."
