Nashi's senior officials - known, in an eerie echo of the Soviet era, as "Commissars" - get free places at top universities. Thereafter, they can expect good jobs in politics or business - which in Russia nowadays, under the Kremlin's crony capitalism, are increasingly the same thing.

Nashi and similar outfits are the Kremlin's first line of defence against its greatest fear: real democracy. Like the sheep chanting "Four legs good, two legs bad" in George Orwell's Animal Farm, they can intimidate through noise and numbers.

Nashi supporters drown out protests by Russia's feeble and divided democratic opposition and use violence to drive them off the streets."

Someone on this blog recently questioned what it was to be "American".

These cheese head, Brett Favre worshiping Wisconsonions tell it like it is.

An Oshkosh boy who was robbed of his lemonade stand money on Tuesday has seen an outpouring of support from people who have sent him cards and money.

Austin Cundy, 11, said he appreciates those in the community who thought enough to help him through his ordeal.

"I think it's very nice that people care," Cundy said Thursday.

Cundy was robbed by two teenagers of a plastic container containing $20 that he had collected by selling cold drinks from a stand in the 800 block of Knapp Street.

Oshkosh police on Wednesday evening took a 17-year-old boy into custody in connection with the robbery at Cundy's lemonade stand.

Sgt. Steve Sagmeister said officers went to the boy's residence after receiving information by way of a citizen tip. Sagmeister said officers arrested the boy at 9:35 p.m. and recovered a plastic container, but no money. The boy was booked into the Winnebago County Jail on suspicion of robbery and physical abuse to a child, Sagmeister said.

No charges have been filed, but the report has been referred to the Winnebago County district attorney's office.

Cundy said he was selling cold drinks to raise money to go camping with his grandparents and to buy a birthday present for his mother. He said he saw two teenagers on bicycles eyeballing him as they were riding past.

About 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, he told police, one of the teenage boys punched Cundy, shoved him off his chair and took the plastic container with the money in it along with Cundy's wallet, which held his library card and student ID.

Cundy said it probably will be a while before he has another lemonade stand. However, he said, some people who have contacted him asked if he'd like to have a lemonade stand at their businesses. Another person offered to give Cundy and his parents passes to the Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture gathering this week at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

Others have simply offered to replace the stolen money.

Cundy's mother, Nicole Cundy, said she's impressed with the response from the community.

"All of these people are showing how much they care about a little boy they don't even know," she said. "It's wonderful."

The boy's grandmother, Barb Cundy, agreed.

"This shows how people really care. There are good people in the world," she said."

Hello, I’m A. Whitney Brown, and I support our brave troops overseas. But what about those troops who are not so brave? Perhaps they just signed up hoping for some extra money for college, for the medical insurance, or even some hot gay military sex.

Suddenly they find themselves in Iraq for the fourth or fifth time and they’re not so brave. In fact they're crapping in their pants. Shouldn't we support them just as much? I think we should.

Now, I can’t make people say they support our troops. But if I’m the only one who’s willing to stand up and say ‘I support our troops’, then I’ll say it; I support our troops - cowards, queers, and all.

What I mean when I say I support our troops is that I actually pay for their food, their ammo, their upkeep, transport, everything. I pay for all of it.
And I do that not only because I’m a patriotic American, although I am, but also because they take 35% out of my check every week and if I don’t pay it I will end up in jail.

That is what I mean by ‘I support our troops’. I mean I am involuntarily, under threat of prison, forced to pay for their support. Now do I resent that?
You’re damn right I do. Because it is stupid as hell. Other countries pay taxes, but they get something for it, like health care. What do I get? I get to kill a bunch of Iraqis. Whoopdeedoo.

What am I going to do with a bunch of dead Iraqis? Plus I don’t even get to keep them. I mean, I might like to have a skull or something to use as a paperweight, on my desk. I’m not saying I would, but it might be a nice gesture to send out a few skulls out to those of us who are paying the cost.

I think they’re a bunch of idiots. I also think they’re morally retarded. Because they sign a contract that says they will kill whoever you tell me to kill. And that is morally retarded.

So to sum up, I don’t like our troops, I don’t like what they’re doing, I don’t like their fat, whining families, and yet, I support them. Thank God I live in a free country. Thank You."

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights. Cut off all but 'G' movies, Parent Trap anyone?

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects. Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination, which is brilliant.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that
required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again only let in the Disney Channel And The Weather Channel.When asked why the weather channel he replied,"So they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut out coffee because it has no nutritional value. When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails.

When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democrat lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

And now he's set up a rat on illegals hotline. Which of course has the illegal supporters all in a tizzy."Latino leaders and faith-based organizations in the U.S. state of Arizona want a local sheriff to disconnect the hot line he created for people to report information about illegal immigrants, saying it raises the chance of racial profiling.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Wednesday, however, that he would not disconnect the hot line, and stressed that deputies would investigate people only if authorities had probable cause."

"Charges against a man accused of repeatedly raping and molesting a 7-year-old girl were dismissed last week because the court could not find an interpreter fluent in the suspect's native West African language.

Mahamu Kanneh, a Liberian native who received asylum in this country and attended high school and community college here, according to The Washington Post, was denied a speedy trial after three years awaiting a court-appointed interpreter who could speak the tribal language of Vai.

Supervisors at a meatpacking plant have fired or harassed dozens of Somali Muslim employees for trying to pray at sunset, violating civil rights laws, the workers and their advocates say.

The five- to 10-minute prayer, known as the maghrib, must be done within a 45-minute window around sunset, according to Muslim rules. The workers at the Swift & Co. plant in Grand Island say they quit, were fired or were verbally and physically harassed over the issue.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations has drafted a complaint to be filed with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Jama Mohamed, 28, said he was fired in June for leaving a production line to pray. Supervisors would not allow him a break, he said.

"Some of them took the (prayer) mat from me; they started shouting, they started telling me to stop it, and one of them grabbed me by the collar of my shirt," Mohamed said through an interpreter.

"I was crying at the time this was happening to me, and when I finished I told them while they were doing that I was in the middle of a prayer."

Mohamed said he was then called to an office, where a supervisor fired him.

Mohamed Rage, chairman of the Omaha Somali-American Community Organization, said Swift had fired at least two dozen workers for praying since May.

Donald Selzer, an attorney for Greeley, Colo.-based Swift, said only three Somali workers were fired for reasons relating to the issue, and that it was for walking off the line without permission, not for praying.

Unscheduled breaks can force unplanned shutdowns of lines, Selzer said."

Security checkpoints are just part of travel these days. They're supposed to keep us safe, so we use them - but not all of us and not all the time.

We've discovered a 4.5 hour time frame each night when virtually anything can be brought into the secure side of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. There's no metal detector, no X-ray machine, and it's apparently not a problem.

Afraid to show her face, one long time Sky Harbor employee talks about the security most people don't see.

In our schools our kids are taught mainly reading, writing and 'rithmatic. Art, sciences and history. Maybe some sports. And until more people like me say "Hey fuckers we don't want your Sharia law, your abuse of women, your flagrant disregard for childhood....and your freakish aversion to pork...." Well until then, we will be fighting them.

After a lengthy back-and-forth, Flake, complaining that his staff couldn't find a website for the center, asked Visclosky, "Does the center currently exist?"

"At this time, I do not know," the Indiana Democrat replied. "But if it does not exist, the monies could not go to it."

And who could possibly be the sponsor of such an earmark? Yes, you guessed it, the man Republicans love to hate, Pennsylvania Democrat John P. Murtha.

Despite the money's uncertain destination, the House rejected Flake's measure to strike the funds, 326-98. And the Visclosky bill also sailed through, 312-112.

"The FBI is investigating an alleged human smuggling operation based in Chaparral, N.M., that agents say is bringing "Iraqis and other Middle Eastern" individuals across the Rio Grande from Mexico.

Before Dawn cracks every morning I roll my ass out of bed and take psycho dotted dog out for her morning "stroll" (more like run/crazy darting/Frisbee frenzy). Yesterday morning as I approached the park there were 3 dudes unloading a car/standing around talking seriously. They "looked Middle Eastern". I'm thinking DUDE, it's like 5:15 am, no one who doesn't own a dog or isn't a dumb ass jogger is out at this time of day. WTF.

They smiled, said HI! and one said,"Cute little doggy." DOGGY? Who the fuck calls 55 pounds of pure dotted muscle "doggy". So I smiled and the one guy approached and Birdy would have NONE OF THAT. She didn't like the guy at all. She is shy with strangers, but she hasn't had that reaction for a couple of months. Weird. I kinda looked at what they were unloading and noticed some boxes, a couple of briefcases etc. And a 12 pack of beer. Definitely too early to be drinking, even for me, I wait till at least noon, in Australia.

So....off I went and forgot about it. Last night Husband comes in and said,"Hey we've got some Iranian neighbors now, they've got a little poodle. They seem nice." I asked if it was three guys, he said yes. I asked how Birdy acted he said she was not happy and didn't want to play with their dog. That right there folks is what sketched me out. Birdy will play with anything. A blind, three legged, 13 year old wiener dog will do. She loves poodles, there are two in her class. Her behavior is odd and since when do three dudes stroll together with a little poodle in the afternoon? Positively freakish if you ask me.

So then Chertoff is going off this morning. It was o.k., Live Earth. I spent the day watching it off and on between episodes of last years series of America's Next Top Model, which, was rather entertaining considering I refused to even be forced to think yesterday. I needed a breaky poo.

Some of the acts were great. I'm a sucker for Metallica, Kelly Clarkson was strong, Black Eyed Pea's fair, Kanye annoying, Jack Johnson was great. So as concerts go, I'd have liked to have been at a few of those venues yesterday. Wembley most assuredly.

It was just the frickin' hypocrisy of the whole thing. The money raised goes to some shadow group of Gore's? For what? To tell us that humanity has fecked some shizznet up here on old Mother Earth? Like Bob Geldof, founder of Live Aid said yesterday,"Why is he (Gore) actually organizing them? To make us aware of the greenhouse effect? Everybody's known about that problem for years."

Now if the money was going to say wetland rehabilitation.... Great, I'd have donated some. If the money was going to some direct cause, river cleanups, urban destruction of riparian communities, destruction of chaparral area's by campers? Great. My problem is that it isn't and the electricity, car pollution and noise pollution from the concert alone negate any positive effect it could have and Gore gets massive moolah to further his nutty goals. "CAIR is urging its supporters to call a Washington, D.C., radio station to "express your concerns about the Islamophobic attitudes" expressed by conservative columnist and author Cal Thomas.

In a commentary on news-talk WTOP radio Monday morning, Thomas discussed the car-bomb terror attacks recently thwarted in the United Kingdom. The eight Muslims arrested in connection with the plot include several physicians.

"How much longer should we allow people from certain lands, with certain beliefs to come to Britain and America and build their mosques, teach hate, and plot to kill us?" Thomas asked.

He also compared Muslims to a "slow-spreading cancer" that must be stopped.

In its message to supporters, the Council on American-Islamic Relations described Thomas''s remarks as "incitement." The message included the name and work telephone number of WTOP's vice president of programming."

President Bush spared Scooter Libby his prison sentence.

"I respect the jury's verdict," Bush said in a statement. "But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby's sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison."

Bush left intact a $250,000 fine and two years probation for Libby, and Bush said his action still "leaves in place a harsh punishment for Mr. Libby."

Way more than adequate. Good for him. He won points in my book for this today.

1) Obviously it is in no way secret if I just pulled this up on Drudge.
2) Uh, that's not what Chertoff said. Not that I'd buy his shizznet at a 75% off clearance sale.(Chertoff said that the United States did not have "have any specific credible evidence that there's an attack focused on the United States at this point.")

"A secret U.S. law enforcement report, prepared for the Department of Homeland Security, warns that al Qaeda is planning a terror "spectacular" this summer, according to a senior official with access to the document."

O.K. hands all around of people who think that anyone who leaks "secret U.S. law enforcement reports" should be drawn and quartered.
